20 year old BMW Z4 give 2 days of TLC from The Gleaming Car Co.
Kept outside her fabric roof was showing its age. Faded, stained and plenty of “green” to sort out. Like most detailing routines fabric hood care is no different in that preparation is absolute key to producing good long lasting results. The first task was to deep clean the roof not just from what was on the surface but from the fabric itself. Much time was spent gently agitating and sucking out the rather stinky green liquid resulting from the process.
Once clean and dry the re-dye can begin, with a whole range of colours available – but the original black being the appropriate choice here.
The hood once dry from the re-dye can then be made weather, UV and mould resistant with an application of re-proofer.
And after much more time had expired the hood looked almost factory fresh – thanks to perhaps a cat there were the odd areas where the fabric had been slightly “fluffed”.
The paintwork was the next task. “Enhancement “being the objective here which is a word I use a lot as it fits into the budget and needs of most cars I detail these days. Silky smooth, gloss enhanced and light swirls removed, providing a foundation for the LSP (last stage protection) which was a 3 year ceramic infused product.
The client seemed quite proud of the fact that he had never cleaned the inside of the car so thankfully with there not been a lot in the way of inside it was an achievable task in the timeframe. With older cars especially a gentle, gentle approach is needed especially on the leather which was extremely worn in places and very dirty. Again after much time and care the seats were at least clean and reconditioned – actually surprised myself as to how much better they came out than expected!
Usual exhaust tip, wheels sorted and the 101 other bits sorted – but also took some time to replenish the rubber seals to make them supple again on all the roof seals and doors……things get a bit dry and wrinkly the older they get.
